Bay Area Hospital Newborn Photographer | Fresh 48 Photography

The first hours after your baby arrives are a blur of tiny details — sleepy stretches, wrinkled toes, hospital bracelets, first feedings, and the way your newborn fits perfectly against your chest.

As a Bay Area hospital newborn photographer, I photograph these fleeting first moments through relaxed, natural Fresh 48 photography sessions. These sessions take place at the hospital within the first 24–48 hours after your baby is born and are designed to document your growing family exactly as you are in this moment.

There is no elaborate posing, studio setup, or pressure for everything to look perfect. Fresh 48 sessions are about preserving the connection, emotion, and tiny details you’ll want to remember long after you’ve brought your baby home.

What Is a Fresh 48 Photography Session?

A Fresh 48 session is a relaxed hospital newborn photography session held during the first 24–48 hours of your baby’s life, typically before you’re discharged from the hospital.

Unlike a traditional newborn session at home, Fresh 48 photography captures your baby’s earliest days exactly as they unfold — the hospital bassinet, tiny identification bracelets, first feedings, sleepy snuggles, and the overwhelming feeling of finally having your baby in your arms.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s remembering what these first hours actually felt like.

Why Hire a Hospital Newborn Photographer?

Those first days with your baby pass incredibly quickly. Between recovering from delivery, feeding your newborn, meeting doctors and nurses, and adjusting to life as a new family, it can be difficult to slow down enough to document it.

Hiring a hospital newborn photographer allows you to be fully present while someone else preserves those memories for you.

I keep Fresh 48 sessions relaxed and baby-led. If your baby needs to eat, be changed, or simply needs a few minutes with you, we take that time.

There is no need to clean your hospital room, bring props, or plan an elaborate wardrobe. Your baby and your connection are enough.

Bay Area Hospitals I Serve for Fresh 48 Photography

I offer Fresh 48 and hospital newborn photography throughout the Bay Area, East Bay, Contra Costa County, and Tri-Valley. If you’re delivering at one of the hospitals below, I’d love to document those first quiet hours with your new baby.

Hospitals I serve include:

  • John Muir Medical Center — Walnut Creek, CA

  • Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center — Walnut Creek, CA

  • San Ramon Regional Medical Center — San Ramon, CA

  • Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley — Pleasanton, CA

  • Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford — Palo Alto, CA

  • Sutter Tracy Community Hospital — Tracy, CA

  • Contra Costa Regional Medical Center — Martinez, CA

  • Alta Bates Summit Medical Center — Berkeley, CA

  • Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center — Oakland, CA

  • Eden Medical Center — Castro Valley, CA

  • Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center — San Leandro, CA

  • Sutter Delta Medical Center — Antioch, CA

  • Kaiser Permanente Antioch Medical Center — Antioch, CA

If you don’t see your hospital listed, feel free to reach out. I may still be able to photograph your Fresh 48 session depending on the location and hospital’s current visitor policies.

Hospital visitor and photography policies can change, so I always recommend confirming your hospital’s current guidelines before your delivery.

What Should We Wear for Fresh 48 Photos?

Keep it simple.

Neutral colors, soft fabrics, and comfortable clothing photograph beautifully in a hospital setting. Moms often choose a simple robe, pajamas, or a comfortable neutral top. Partners can wear a plain T-shirt, sweater, or button-down.

For baby, a simple swaddle or neutral onesie is perfect.

You do not need matching outfits or an elaborate wardrobe. Fresh 48 photography is meant to feel natural and true to this incredibly brief season of your family’s life.

When Should I Book My Bay Area Fresh 48 Photographer?

I recommend booking your Bay Area Fresh 48 photographer during pregnancy rather than waiting until your baby arrives.

Because babies rarely arrive exactly on their due dates, I reserve availability around your estimated delivery date. Once your baby is born, you’ll contact me as soon as you’re able, and we’ll coordinate your hospital newborn session during your stay.

This allows us to plan ahead while still keeping the actual session timing flexible.

What If My Baby Arrives Early or Late?

That’s completely normal.

Your due date serves as a general placeholder rather than a fixed photography date. Once your baby arrives, we’ll coordinate based on your recovery, baby’s health, hospital policies, and my availability.

The priority is always the health and comfort of you and your baby.

Fresh 48 Photography vs. In-Home Newborn Photography

You don’t necessarily have to choose between the two.

Fresh 48 photography documents the very beginning — hospital bracelets, bassinets, first cuddles, and those unmistakable first-day details.

An in-home newborn photography session takes place after you’ve returned home and captures a different part of your story: settling into life together, snuggling in your own spaces, siblings interacting with baby, and your family’s new everyday rhythm.

Many families choose both because the sessions preserve two completely different chapters of the newborn experience.

Natural, Emotional Hospital Newborn Photography

My approach to hospital newborn photography is natural, emotional, and documentary-inspired.

I’ll give you gentle direction when you need it, but I also leave space for real moments to happen. I want your photographs to remind you not only of what your baby looked like, but of what it felt like to hold them when they were brand new.

The sleepy stretches. The tiny fingers wrapped around yours. The hospital bassinet beside your bed. The way your partner looked at your baby.

These details change almost immediately.

Photographs give you a way to keep them.
