In-home newborn photography in Brentwood CA with parents holding baby

Updated August 2026

Bringing a new baby home is one of the most emotional and fleeting seasons of life. For many Dublin families, in-home newborn photography offers a calm, meaningful way to document those first days — without the stress of packing up and leaving the house.

As a Dublin newborn photographer, I specialize in relaxed, lifestyle newborn sessions that focus on connection, comfort, and the beauty of real life at home. If you’re considering an in-home newborn session in Dublin, CA, here’s exactly what to expect.

I photograph newborn sessions throughout Dublin, CA and the surrounding Tri-Valley area, including Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Livermore. All sessions are held in the comfort of your home for a relaxed, baby-led experience.

Why Choose In-Home Newborn Photography in Dublin, CA?

Life with a newborn is unpredictable — and that’s okay. In-home newborn photography allows you to stay where you and your baby are most comfortable.

Families in Dublin love this style because it offers:

  • No rushing out the door with a newborn

  • A familiar, safe environment for baby

  • A slower, baby-led pace

  • Photos that reflect your real life and home

Instead of posed studio setups, lifestyle newborn photography focuses on genuine moments — feeding, cuddling, soothing, and simply being together.

What Is Lifestyle Newborn Photography?

Lifestyle newborn photography is natural, unposed, and story-driven.

Rather than props and rigid posing, your session will include:

  • Baby in your arms

  • Snuggles on the bed or couch

  • Sweet moments with siblings

  • Soft window light and neutral tones

This approach creates timeless images that feel honest, emotional, and deeply personal.

If you’re drawn to natural light, minimal styling, and meaningful connection, lifestyle newborn photography is likely the perfect fit.

You Don’t Need a Perfect Nursery for Beautiful Newborn Photos

One of the most common concerns I hear from parents is that their home isn’t “photo-ready.” The good news is, it doesn’t need to be.
You don’t need a perfectly decorated nursery, an all-white bedroom, or a magazine-worthy home for beautiful newborn photos. When I arrive, I’ll look for the rooms with the best natural light and help simplify anything that may be distracting.
Sometimes we photograph most of a session in one bedroom. Other times, we’ll use the nursery, living room, or another meaningful corner of your home. The focus isn’t on making your house look perfect — it’s on documenting your family together in the place where you’re bringing your baby home.

Preparing Your Home for an In-Home Newborn Session

Preparing for your session doesn’t require deep cleaning your entire house. Before I arrive, I recommend opening your curtains or blinds to let in natural light and doing a quick tidy of the rooms you think we may use.
Clearing nightstands, removing clutter from the bed, and having a few favorite swaddles or blankets nearby is usually plenty. Once I arrive, I’ll look at the light throughout your home and help determine which spaces will photograph best.
Don’t worry if every room isn’t ready — we may only use two or three areas of your home during the entire session.

Can Siblings and Pets Be Included in Newborn Photos?

Absolutely. Your newborn session isn’t only about photographing your new baby — it’s also about documenting what your family looks and feels like during this season.
Older siblings can cuddle with baby, sit with you on the bed, peek into the bassinet, or simply interact naturally. I don’t expect young children to sit still or smile perfectly for the camera. We’ll work around their personalities, comfort levels, and attention spans.
Pets can be included too. One of the benefits of an in-home newborn session is that your pets are already in an environment where they feel comfortable, making it much easier to include them in a few family photos.

What If My Baby Doesn’t Sleep During the Session?

Your baby does not need to sleep through the session. Some of my favorite newborn photographs include babies who are awake, stretching, looking at their parents, feeding, or simply taking in their surroundings.
If your baby needs to eat, be changed, rocked, or soothed, we’ll stop and give them what they need. There is no pressure to follow a strict schedule or force your baby into a particular pose.
In-home newborn sessions are intentionally baby-led. Your baby’s needs determine the pace, which is one of the reasons I allow approximately 1.5–2 hours for each session.

In-Home Newborn Photography Throughout Dublin and the Tri-Valley

If you’re considering newborn photography in Dublin, CA, an in-home session allows you to document these early days without packing up your baby or traveling to a studio.

I photograph newborn sessions throughout Dublin and the surrounding Tri-Valley, including Pleasanton, San Ramon, Livermore, and nearby East Bay communities. Because I come to you, your baby’s first photography session can happen in the environment where your family is already most comfortable.

Every home is different, and that’s part of what I love about lifestyle newborn photography. Rather than recreating the same studio setup for every family, your home, relationships, and baby’s personality become part of the story.

What to Expect During Your In-Home Newborn Session

A Calm, Flexible Pace

Sessions typically last 1.5–2 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing breaks. There is no rush — your baby sets the pace.

Gentle Direction (No Stress)

I’ll guide you into natural positions using the best light in your home, while keeping everything relaxed and easy. You don’t need to know how to pose — just focus on your baby.

Your Home, Lightly Styled

You don’t need a perfectly styled house. I’ll help you choose the best rooms and light, and we’ll keep everything simple and uncluttered.

Most sessions take place in:

  • The primary bedroom

  • Nursery

  • Living room with good window light

What to Wear for In-Home Newborn Photos

Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby.

Recommended colors:

  • Cream, beige, soft gray, ivory

  • Muted earth tones

  • Light pastels

Avoid:

  • Bright colors or bold patterns

  • Logos or heavy graphics

Baby outfits are best kept simple — a neutral onesie, swaddle, or even just a diaper works beautifully.

When to Schedule Your Newborn Session

The best time for in-home newborn photography is within the first 7–21 days after birth, but lifestyle sessions are flexible and can be done later if needed.

Most Dublin families book their newborn session during pregnancy to ensure availability, with the session date finalized once baby arrives.
